Author:     July 17, 2007

The 2007 Ford Ironman 70.3 Hawaii was another great year of exciting competition. Canada’s Samantha McGlone made a dramatic come from behind victory while Australia’s Chris McCormack defended his 2006 title in smooth fashion. Athletes from 24 countries and 42 states represented this years’ field. Many were competing for slots to the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Florida.

It is with sincere gratitude and appreciation we extend a big MAHALO to all of the incredible volunteers that supported this Big Island event. It is your selfless and inspiring support that enables athletes from all over the world to fulfill their dreams. Thank you for sharing the spirit of “ALOHA” with these visitors who have come to Hawaii to be a part of the Ironman legacy and tradition.

The Ford Ironman 70.3 Hawaii continues to receive letters of praise and accolades sharing appreciation to the volunteers. The hard work, commitment and genuine care you share with each athlete is beyond compare. Their race day stories focus on the contribution of the volunteers and the vital role the volunteers play in them reaching their goal. The generosity you have shown is immeasurable and it never goes unseen.

So what else can be said of the volunteers that has not been said before. The athlete comments speak for themselves…

“The volunteers were most certainly the crowning jewel of this race. From registration to the finish line, the volunteers greeted me with smiles, useful information, unwavering support and enthusiastic encouragement.”

“Let the volunteers know how much they are truly appreciated! Without them we could not have made it through the race! They are the infrastructure of any event and the volunteers in Hawaii are THE BEST!”

“I just wanted to say Mahalo for putting on such an amazing race last weekend! This was my first 70.3, but it will definitely not be my last! Everything was amazingly well organized and the volunteers and staff were warm and friendly. I can’t thank everyone enough. I was never without water, Gatorade, PowerBar or cheering aid station volunteers…they were all FANTASTIC! I had the time of my life and I’m anxious to return next year!”

We’d like to specially thank the management and staff at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel And Bungalows for their warm hospitality and world-class service and also to all of our partners and sponsors: Ford, American Interbanc Mortgage, PowerBar, Bike Works, Gatorade, ASI Photo, SolRx, Anheuser – Busch Hawaii and The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii.
